Lindly Haunani

As a polymer artist, my work would not be what it is today if it weren't for the inspiration and influence of the talented pioneers in the community.  With that in mind, I made a decision four years ago to use CFCF as a forum to recognize some of those pioneers who have given so much and influenced so many.  The Creative Pioneer and Innovator Award was conceived as a means to offer a public token of gratitude, recognition and thanks.  Separately, the body of work for each pioneer is unique and awe-inspiring.  Together, their work has opened thousands of minds to polymer and their teachings have inspired countless others to try new techniques, develop their own style, and to explore.

A Great Crafter's Resource PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 02 June 2012 15:56

When it comes to crafty-ness, I've often been a CRASH test dummy: in other words, my craft closets are filled with products I've purchased, thinking they'd be the next best thing to sliced bread.  Turns out they weren't.  In some cases I'd had unrealistic expectations about the product, in others I used it incorrectly, and in a few cases the product was just downright awful.

Looking back, I'd have really liked to have known about Jenny Rohr's craft product review site, CraftTestDummies.com, before I'd spent my hard-earned pin money on something I'd never use.  So with that in mind, I exchanged some email with Jenny and we talked about her work and her life, as well as picking her brain about her favorite polymer clay products!

Review: Terra Nova Exhibit PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 November 2011 12:01

terra-nova-coverI visited the Racine Art Museum on Saturday, October 29, 2011, to see Terra Nova: Polymer Art at the Crossroads. I was there with three members of the Metro Milwaukee Polymer Clay Guild. The exhibit is breathtaking. To see polymer clay art displayed in a formal setting of a museum was amazing.

There are over 200 exhibit pieces in the second-floor gallery. Many of the pieces are a gift to the museum and will go in their permanent archives. Others are on loan from artists, collectors, and galleries. Thirty-four artists were featured, but the spotlight was on eight Boundary Breakers: Bonnie Bishoff and J.M. Syron, Jeffrey Lloyd Dever, Kathleen Dustin, Steven Ford and David Forlano, Tory Hughes, Cynthia Toops, Pier Voulkos, and Elise Winters. Other artists were also featured: Jamey Allen, Kathleen Amt, Rachel Carren, Dan Cormier, Debra DeWolff, Gwen Gibson, Linda Goff, Michael Grove, Ruth Anne Grove, Lindly Haunani, Carl Hornberger, Donna Kato, Ronnie Kirsch, Judy Kuskin, Maggie Maggio, Wendy Wallin Malinow, Sandra McCaw, Linda Pedersen, Nan Roche, Sarah Shriver, Carol Simmons, Barbara Sperling, Melanie West, and Amy Zinman.

Sharing is a gift that keeps giving . . . .

As many of you have experienced sharing your talent is a reward unto itself. Over the years we’ve heard so many positive reports on guild family and kids events.

There are 1200 kids per day through this exhibit along with their teachers and parent chaperones.  This is the place where they have to reinforce the tables so that the kids don't collapse them as they lean on them and make their projects.
