Translucent Polymer Clay Inspirations

Master the art of designing and mixing scintillating vibrant and clear color palettes using translucent polymer clay. You will begin by making your own personalized translucent mix color swatch deck that will be used as a reference to create your personalized palette. Lindly will guide you step by step as you make mokume gane with metal leaf, explore adding inclusions to the clay body, and design a set of color-coordinated canes that will feature both translucent clay blends and opaque accents. You will then explore folded bead forms, maximizing translucency, preparing multiple layered laminates, and combining surface effects. Come prepared to have fun, laugh, and learn new approaches to working with polymer clay while increasing your color confidence. Lindly Haunani’s passion for food and cooking provide a basis for her inspiration when making things. This is often expressed via the color, construction techniques, and form in her designs. She began teaching polymer in 1990 and has presented more than 100 workshops. Her work appears in 15 books. In addition to being in many private collections, her work is part of the permanent collections of the Racine Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Newark Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Mingei International Museum in San Diego. She has a BFA in printmaking from Carnegie Mellon University.

PendantsHave fun develoing your personal color palette and style while learning Carol’s unique approach to kaleidoscope design and pendant construction. This is an in-depth exploration of the art of polymer clay caning. Topics will include: Color combinations; color mixing; clay management; constructing simple canes; the design, construction, and reduction of complex canes; slicing the cane and manipulating the slices to form numerous, one-of-a-kind kaleidoscope designs; pendant construction and finishing techniques. Participants should be comfortable with basic polymer clay techniques, including a basic understanding of cane construction methods.

 

This is an intensive workshop for a maximum of 8 students. There are 3 openings left. The workshop location is superb with lodging and meals in a single historic building and cooking that is out of this world! Chicago and Milwaukee airports are just an hour away.
